Both Chinese and Thai belong to Sino-Tibetan. Their phonetic systems bothinclude vowels, consonants and tones. Each syllable consistes of vowel, consonant andtone. Both the similiar and the different factors of these parts give various influencesto Thai people on their Chinese study. Firstly, it is very easy for them to study severalvowels and consonants while some diphthongs are so difficult to learn that they canseldom get the exact pronunciation. Also, the pronunciation of zh, ch, sh and r is muchmore difficult. As for tones, the range of the mistakes is wide. In the process ofteaching Chinese phonetics to Thai people, teachers always use various methods suchas object performance, gesture performance, One VS Hundred or relieve the nature tosolve the problems.This essay is bound to analyze the Chinese and Thai phonetics systems from theaspects of vowels, consonants and tones according to the similarity and difference ofthe two languages, introducing the phonetics features of the two languages as well. Inaddition, the essay is based on the author’s ten-month Chinese teaching experience,analyzing the mistakes they will make when studying Chinese deeply. And the essaywill give the useful and effective teaching methods in the Chinese teaching process.
