Chinese phonetic teaching has always been difficult part in the teaching of Chinese as a second language. The problems about the learning of Chinese pronunciation in primary stage will directly affect the teaching of later stages. In recent years, there has been great achievement on Chinese phonetic research. However, most of the research is theoretical. The research about classroom teaching is neglected. This paper is going to take Chinese phonetic teaching practice as an example and make an analysis of the difficult points in students’ learning by test. Then there will be an exploration of effective teaching methods. Finally, the effectiveness of the teaching method will be tested. The result shows that Thai pronunciation often has an effect on Chinese phonetic learning, which leads to wrong Chinese pronunciation. Pronunciation test also indicates that students often make mistakes in pronunciation and intonation, causing the misunderstanding of some words. Thai students always lend some Thai words, whose pronunciation is similar with Chinese words, to express themselves. By comparing Chinese phonology and Thai phonology, it shows that there are so much similarities between these two languages, puzzling students during their leaning. Interview survey reveals that apart from Thai phonology, Thai students are also influenced by native Chinese teachers’ language level. This paper comes up with T.A.E.G and gesture language phonetic teaching methods based on students’pronunciation errors. The effectiveness of these two kinds of teaching methods are illustrated in teaching practice.
