Dunhuang Three-volume "Wang Fanzhi Poetry" Vocabulary Study

Abstract/Summary:
Wang fanzhi was a legendary monk who good at writing poetry in the early Tang dynasty. Wang fanzhi’s poems that commonly referred to as, were not only created by Wang fanzhi. It’s a general term for works created by many folk vernacular poets. Wang fanzhi’s poems were created before and after the Tang dynasty, and kept the original appearance of history. They reflects a high degree of spoken language, and the content has broad social and cultural life coverage. Thus they reflect the actual language of the high degree of the actual language and are the best model corpus of studying language of Tang dynasty.This article selected the most important part of Wang fanzhi’s poems——Dun Huang three-volume<Wang fanzhi’s poetry anthology> as the research object, redards it as a closed system of research, and studied vocabulary features of Dun Huang three-volume<Wang fanzhi’s poetry anthology> by combining investigation and research of the system. The first chapter made a comprehensive description of vocabulary features of Dun Huang three-volume<Wang fanzhi’s poetry anthology>. Through the diachronic and synchronic analysis, it laid out the2938words using words constitute exhaustiveness theory of professor Yu Liming in Si Chuan University, respectively classified them into four layers, basic layer, commonly used layer, local layer and edge layer, and shows the word forms characteristics of Dun Huang three-volume<Wang fanzhi’s poetry anthology> under the two factors of the history of stability and universality. Vocabulary characteristic of Wang fanzhi’s poems mainly displays in a lot of new words and new meanings and a number of colloquial words in Tang dynasty. And this is also the most intuitive vocabulary research value of Wang fanzhi’s poems. So the second chapter and the third chapter selected two "points" that the study of new words and new meanings and the study of colloquial words for research, highlighted words characteristic of literature, and integrated points and spheres.The second chapter made a brief description of new words and new meanings of Dun Huang three-volume<Wang fanzhi’s poetry anthology>, and discussed the approach in the formation of new words and the evolution of the new meanings combined with cognitive linguistics.The third chapter made the inspection from three aspects of parts of speech, speech form, and structure of colloquial words of Dun Huang three-volume<Wang fanzhi’s poetry anthology>, and used the method of dialect example to discusses the origin and development of slang words. The fourth chapter showed the application value of compiling dictionary of Dun Huang three-volume<Wang fanzhi’s poetry anthology>, and provided a reference for the revision of the "Chinese Big Dictionary" from supplementation of headwords and meanings, the connection with the full documentary evidence, etc.Based on the above research process, this paper, has the following findings of the value of the vocabulary of Wang fanzhi’s poems:First, the value on history of Chinese.Many words provides the evidence of development process for the history of Chinese vocabulary that helps eliminate weak links in the study of history of Chinese language and fill some gaps.1.Provides a batch of the earliest age words and meanings or unique words and meanings for the construction of Chinese vocabulary history.For example, the degree adverbs in modern Chinese "Dao Da","Chang Jiao" which means "quarrel", first appeared in Wang fanzhi’s poems. And some words only appeared in Wang fanzhi’s poems, they are the unique words of Wang fanzhi’s poems. For example,"Li Tou","Pin Qi","Chang Huo","Fang Kongxiong", etc. And this is unique corpus value of Wang fanzhi’s poems.2.Helps making a scientific explanation of the existence and formation of some words in modern Chinese and dialect words.some words in modern Chinese and some popular words or spoken words in Modern dialect, Can be found the earliest origin in Wang fanzhi’s poems. For example,"Si Pianban" in dialect,"Cen Ci" which means "mistakes, errors" in modern Chinese written table, etc.second, the application value of Wang fanzhi’s poems.Wang fanzhi’s poems with popularized and colloquial features have rich vocabulary and save a lot of dialect slang, and Buddhist vocabulary, thus provide a rich corpus compilation for revision of the "Chinese Big Dictionary" and other major language dictionaries. They have important application value. Adding missing lexical entries, such as "Nv Fu","Mang Pa","Xing Duan" and so on; amending the interpretation of dictionary, such as "Fu Rou","Xia Er" and so on; Supplementing senses, such as "Liao","Lu Tou""Chu Shen1" and so on; Advancing the earliest written evidence, such as "Gu Yaya","Bao Ai"The innovation of this paper is mainly in the following areas:First, using new vocabulary theory for the systematic investigation of Dun Huang three-volume<Wang fanzhi’s poetry anthology>, and integrating points and spheres. This paper used a theory of vocabulary constitute that from Professor Yu Li Ming in Si Chuan University for macro-visits., and studied two representative "points".Second, using the theory of cognitive linguistics to interpret and analysis the new language elements. When researched emergence of new meanings, not only described the evolution of new meanings and explored the pathway of the evolution of new meaning, but also revealed the motivation and mechanism of the evolution of the meanings.Use conceptual metaphor, conceptual metonymy, Focus/Background theory of cognitive linguistics to explain the mechanisms of evolution.Third, Organic combination of body and applied research. The first three chapters of this paper are body research.The fourth chapter is applied research which shows practical value of the vocabulary research of Wang fanzhi’s poems on lexicography.
