Public Space Consciousness Of The University Art Museum

This thesis attempts to cognize and examine University Art Museum through anew theoretical perspective, taking CAFA Art Museum as an example, to analyze asignificant theory that how to build a public space which is free, democratic, open andequal by organizing Biennale and a series of academic activities. This public space isnot a simple sense of physical space, but a true public space. In this space, theBiennale exhibition render the developing process, problem awareness and researchanalysis; and the series of academic activities bring production of knowledge,dialogues and communication links, motivating people to take this as a platform tocare about social issues, and express their views to stimulate further discussion andattract academic attention. The whole process also helps knowledge construction.University Art Museum constantly constructs and enriches the knowledge system inthis process. From this perspective, this thesis will researches and studies twoBiennale cases of the CAFA Art Museum, to grab the spiritual connotation of the ArtMuseum of the University and new value and ideas it triggers, which influencesUniversity Art Museum to gradually have a sense of public space and towards beingopen and equal. The final conclusion is that even through the CAFA Art Museum isnot the real public space what Habermas has meant, it already has the elements andfunctions of a public art museum, and also has the real public characters. The writerhopes through cases studies, some inspiration can be drawn for the future practice ofthe Art Museum of the University, and more industry experts and scholars can beinvolved in this topic with more deeply and thorough research and analysis.
