Accurate expression of visual information relies on people’s visual memory in graphic design. The appearance, area and influence of visual memory in graphic design and the relation between them are firstly introduced in this thesis. The application and significance of visual memory in graphic design are then illustrated comprehensively. Through theoretical analysis and discussion of excellent examples at home and abroad, the value and implementation methods of visual memory in graphic design is explored, and the ideology of design work is showed maximally. The author’s major contributions are outlined as follows.Firstly, the research background, purpose and significance of visual memory and graphic design are introduced. Meanwhile, the importance of visual memory in graphic design for communication is depicted. All of these provide a prerequisite condition for the research in this thesis.Secondly, the concept and significance of the visual memory are summarized. Meanwhile, the production limitation and two stages in the development of visual memory are analyzed. Also, the method for extracting and processing the things seen in practical to chronically preserve them in our mind by visual memory in visual experience is introduced. Furthermore, the relation between graphic design and visual memory is elaborated significantly. Finally, the application area and style of visual memory in graphic design is researched. The application laws of visual memory in graphic design are revealed by thoroughly studying of various expressions of it. The application policy of visual memory in graphic design is further investigated by means of design examples, which promotes the communication and resonance between the design work and the spiritual of people.
