Frequent use of complex sentences is one of the difficult problems in consecutiveinterpretation. The interpreter will listen to the source language, integrate, process theinformation and finally deliver it to the audience in a short time. While the length,complexity and various forms of the sentences make the interpretation more difficult.With the immediacy and unpredictability of consecutive interpretation, varied sentencestructure and lots of information of complex sentences, the interpreter will inevitablymake some mistakes. The thesis discusses main problems of complex sentences duringthe consecutive interpretation, which include interpreter’s non-accurate output andnon-fluent output such as errors, omissions and pause in interpretation. Targetedstrategies should be adopted to solve the above problems. For example, strategies ofself-repair, sense group division, information reorganization, adding andcomplimentary interpretation. The strategies could help interpreters deal with complexsentences during the consecutive interpretation. The author hopes that the thesis willenable the learners master the skills of complex sentences in interpretation andcomprehensively improve their abilities. The thesis will provide some reference tolearners in the self-improvement process.
