| This simulated consecutive interpretation practice chose Robert Gordon’s book promotion lecture at London School of Economics and Political Science as the interpreting material. After finishing the practice, the interpreter summarized the problems and solutions in the interpretation process. The material used was an economics lecture, involving many economic terms and professional statistical techniques. But the main difficulties were normalization, complex sentences and redundancy. With regard to normalization, the interpreter adopted the strategy of addition or word transformation when dealing with the normalization in lexical level and the strategy of explicitness or segmentation or both when dealing with the normalization in sentence level. With regard to the complex sentences, the interpreter adopted the strategy of segmentation and word order rearrangement. With regard to the redundancy, the interpreter used the omission strategy. This report aims to provide interpreters with a few effective solutions when doing the consecutive interpretation of economics lectures or other acadamic lectures so as to impove the quality of their interpretation. |
