The material of this report is the first event of the “Science Matters” Series held by the Royal Society in the UK with climate change as its topic. The report mainly provides coping strategies for technical interpretation. The main factors of measuring the quality of technical interpretation include the accuracy of information, logic, cohesion and clarity. And a large amount of conjunctive elements involved in logico-semantic relations, demonstrative pronouns as well as complex sentences are used during the discussion. Therefore, coping strategies of conjunctive elements used in logico-semantic relations, demonstrative pronouns and complex sentences are the main focuses of the report. In terms of conjunctive elements involved in logico-semantic relations, omission is applied to the situation of repetitive use of conjunctive elements.Explicitation could be used for implicit cohesion. And when the elements used in logico-semantic relations are expressing meanings different from original ones, semantic interpretation is preferred. As for demonstrative pronouns, when the referential meaning is too complicated, simplification is suggested. For the repetitive use of a pronoun, the reappearance of the referential meaning is the proper strategy.Omission is also a way for demonstrative pronouns in order to make an expression with brevity. For complex sentences, division is used first, then the interpretation should be done in original order. This can be a reference report for technical interpretation, promoting the scientific knowledge dissemination and improving people's awareness of science and technology. |
