As the number of exchanges between China and the world increases,a growing number of different meetings, with Chinese to English interpreting services, are held every year.At the same time, figures are used more frequently in meetings to highlight the views of the speaker. However, figures, featuring signal vulnerability, are easy to be missed by interpreters.Furthermore, sentences in Chinese focus more on message conveying than proper structures. Therefore, you may often see a Chinese sentence that is very long and complex. As a result, interpreting figure-intensive long sentences from Chinese to English is quite a challenge.Mistakes liking omitting and misinterpreting information often occur.Upon analysis, these mistakes could be categorized into 7 groups, with figure omission, incorrect number and vague number occurring in the figure part, and incorrect unit name, incorrect reference, incorrect logic and other omission occurring in the non-figure part. This thesis, based on a case study of mock conference interpreting of Zhu Min's speech at China IT Leader's Summit Shenzhen 2019,points out the typical omission and misinterpretation mistakes in author's interpreting, analyzes the underlying reasons and provides improved versions.According to the study, the reasons are mainly inadequate listening and analyzing, and inadequate preparation. In the hope of reducing such mistakes and improving the performance of interpreting figure-intensive long sentences, the thesis provides targeted solutions including prioritizing figures and generalizing less important information when interpreting, and focusing on retelling, figure interpretation practice and extensive reading when practicing and learning.
