The path of peaceful development is a major strategic choice made by the Chinese people lead by the Communist Party of China in the new historical period for the development of China’s modernization Road. While safeguarding China’s national stability and promote its own development, China has made a promise to people of the world that China will always make positive efforts and contribution to regional prosperity and security, development and progress of other nations in a peaceful way.Since the reform and opening up, China has been continuously enhancing its comprehensive national strength, which lays a solid foundation for its peaceful development. Accelerating integration of East Asia countries is the driving factor, while the building of safety mechanism serves as the guarantee factor for peaceful development. As the basic geographic factor for the rise of China, East Asia carries great meaning for China’s peaceful development. From the point of international environment, the strengthening trend of economic globalization, closer cross-nation cooperation, and deepening degree of interdependence among them have provided a wider platform for its peaceful development. While embracing opportunities, China’s peaceful development in East Asia is facing traditional security challenges and non-traditional security challenges as well. Sovereignty dispute on East China Sea between China and Japan, sovereignty fight over regional resources in South China Sea, cross-strait reunification obstacles from "Taiwan independence" forces, North Korean nuclear crisis, and strategic center of the US moving eastwards... All of them have threatened China’s peripheral security. Moreover, non-traditional securities such as regional terrorism, economic security and ecological security in East Asia are also striking.China must improve and strengthen its internal reform and construction to enhance its comprehensive national strength if it wants to achieve a peaceful development in East Asia. In addition, it should also actively promote the economic and political system reform, strengthen national strength, increase the internal impetus of peaceful development, actively carry forward the opening up policy in an all round way to strive for external resources for peaceful development, strengthen the military capacity building, and build a solid security barrier. And the country needs to adopt peaceful diplomatic strategies with Chinese characteristics. Meanwhile, it is necessary for China to face up to the civilizations conflicts of East Asia, increase political, economic, and cultural exchanges, promote harmonious and common development of East Asia and build harmonious relations with large countries, in order to create the international environment that is conducive to China’s development.East Asian countries need to join together to promote the process of regional integration, in order to help East Asia rise in a peaceful environment. They should also build the East Asian security community, gradually establish a new security concept of multilateral cooperation. New East Asia regionalism must be pushed forward led by ASEAN countries. Nations in the region should actively promote bilateral and multilateral economic cooperation, the integration process, and security cooperation among great powers. Additionally, they also need to establish a multilateral security dialogue mechanism, continuously to strengthen the system construction to address regional security issues.
