Myanmar and China's mountains and rivers depend on each other and it is an important traditional friend of China.Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Burma, the two countries have maintained stable diplomatic relations and established a comprehensive strategic partnership. At present,China's main task is to develop the economy, increase its national strength and raise people's living standards. In achieving this task,China needs a peaceful and stable surrounding environment. Therefore, for China,it is very important to maintain good bilateral relations with neighboring countries.Through the study of Sino-Myanmar relations,we can better handle the relations with Myanmar, have great practical and theoretical value for China, maintain a stable domestic and international harmonious situation, and seize important historical opportunities. This article attempts to discuss the opportunities and challenges in the development of Sino-Myanmar relations from the following five aspects. The first chapter mainly reviews the research status of Sino-Myanmar relations at home and abroad through literature review, and some of the research methods used in the study of Sino-Burmese relations, and then analyzes the history and development status of Sino-Myanmar relations, future development trends, and research.significance.The second chapter briefly reviews and analyzes the history and development status of Sino-Myanmar relations. The history of China-Myanmar relations is mainly divided into four stages.Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Myanmar in 1950,the development of Sino-Myanmar relations has undergone the following four stages: namely, the running-in period during the establishment of diplomatic relations, from 1962 to 1988.The tortuous development stage, the all-round development stage from 1988 to 1999,and the transformation stage of Sino-Myanmar relations since 1999.In the more than 60 years of Sino-Myanmar relations, although the development of the relations between the two countries has been a tortuous one, overall it has shown a trend of steady development.By reviewing and summarizing the development process of the relations between China and Myanmar since the foundingof the People's Republic of China,we further analyzed the historical development of international, domestic and Chinese-Burmese relations. Then from the four perspectives of political science, politics, economy, trade, and military affairs analyze the status quo of the relations between China and Myanmar. The third chapter discusses the main challenges facing China and Myanmar. The state formulates foreign policy in the direction of maximizing national interests. Therefore,Myanmar's diplomatic concept has changed from traditional neutralism to balanced diplomacy, development of relations with the United States,Japan, and India, seeking more partners on the international stage, reducing dependence on China, and weakening China's influence in Myanmar. In bilateral issues, the problem of cross-border drug trafficking still affects China-Myanmar relations.Myanmar's domestic political and economic reforms have also brought more uncertainties to China-Myanmar relations. In international multilateral issues, the United States,Japan, and India have gradually adjusted their blockades against Burma in order to have more vested interests in Myanmar and balance China's influence in Myanmar. The relations with Myanmar have eased and cooperation has taken place in various fields. It has brought challenges to China-Myanmar relations. The fourth chapter discusses the historical opportunities facing the development of China-Myanmar relations. The consensus between the two countries on international bilateral issues and multilateral issues is the basis for the development of the two countries. The series of reforms carried out in Myanmar after Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's Democratic League led the ruling also brought opportunities to China-Myanmar relations.Myanmar is also an important part of China's “One Belt and One Road” initiative. The current status of the Sino-Burmese cooperation in the “Belt and Road Initiative” has also brought more room for cooperation between China and Myanmar. In the fifth chapter,on the basis of analyzing the future opportunities and challenges, the two countries will overcome the differences and the basis of mutual understanding and mutual accommodation, and look forward to the future direction and development direction of Sino-Myanmar relations.
