Japan-Korea relations are very important to each other, but it is very complex, fullof cooperation and friction. This article focused on Japan as a foothold to describe theforeign policy to Korea of Japanese prime ministers after the Cold War, describe thedevelopment of Japan-Korea relations. This article also emphasis on analyzing thefactors that influence the bilateral relations. This article is divided into four parts.The first part has introduced the history of the relationship between Japan andKorea, described the characteristics of the relations under the Cold War to lay afoundation for the analysis of Japan-Korea relations after the Cold War.The second part has described the development of Japan-Korea relations after theCold War. It has four sections:1990-2001, redefine and warming of Japan-Korearelations;2001-2007, the ebb tide of Japan-Korea relations;2007-2009, themomentary warm of Japan-Korea relations;2009to now, the relations is gettingbetter but has many obstacles.The third part has analyzed the factors that influence the Japan-Korea relations.The relationship between Japan and Korea are always warm as well as cold. Historicalissues and the sovereignty of Jukdo are the most important factors that influence theKorean-Japanese relations. In addition, the economic and trade relations, the policy toNorth Korea and nationalism emotions are also have a great influence on the Japan-Korea relations.The forth part has assessed the Japan-Korea relations after the Cold War. Throughout the history of the development of Korean-Japanese relations after the Cold War, ithas the characteristics that the turbulence is greater than the stable, Korean-Japaneserelations are always twists and turns. The development tendency of Japan-Korearelations have an important affect on the security of the world. However, with thecommon interests, the relationship between Japan and Korea will not fracture. It willbe difficult to establish the new partner relationships with the existence of historicaland territorial issues. Coexistence of cooperation and friction will be thecharacteristics of Japan-Korea relations.
