Empty nesters are perceived as a special vulnerable groups by society. Its long-term lack of children, or social assistance, both physically and psychologically at a low level state. Among the city’s empty nesters, also has its own unique properties, before and after retirement has dramatic changes, resulting in empty nesters have a greater difference in the social adaptation. Society about the city empty nesters have a lot of negative news. Due to empty nest and depression, death cases continue to emerge. Cities empty nesters have been labeled "lonely","helpless","life miserable" and other labels with negative nature. This paper proposes three hypotheses in order to study the clues, assuming one: empty families and empty nesters appears that the family life cycle of a stage is a normal social phenomenon,"empty nest" once does not mean weak and special; assuming two: in enhancing SWB, the city empty nesters and non-empty nesters are not due to age, health, income and other objective substance causes a big difference; assuming three: social adaptation is to enhance the city empty nesters quality of life, enhance SWB key factor.This paper analyzes the empty nest as normalization appears with family life cycle theory. Family life cycle is divided into six specific stages:family formation, family extended period of family upbringing, family systolic home empty nest, family disintegration period. The empty nest is just one stage of the development process of the family, is a general regularities of social phenomenon, not a word would appear with a negative nature. Secondly, the use of qualitative methods to demonstrate this argument. Decided to come to the city social adaptability are empty nesters in charge of the key factors of happiness.Paper selected cities and urban non-empty nesters empty nesters typical case, a total of five subjects in subjective well-being as a dividing point, using a structured interview research methods to differentiate SWB analysis of the strength of the two groups, mainly from the four aspects of health status, income status, social relations and self-efficacy were compared, the conclusion is the age, physical condition, income, and a key factor in the decision whether or not the city empty nest elderly SWB, including social relations and social adaptation, including self-efficacy is to improve the quality of life of older urban focus.
