Reading is an important way of language input. In the process of English teaching in themiddle school, in the long time, the teachers’ attention to explaining the language points,vocabulary and grammar knowledge are too much, then ignoring students’ readingcomprehension practice, which will hinder the development of students’ reading potential.Reading comprehension takes up a large proportion in English test paper of the CollegeEntrance Examination in Jiangxi province. If students are eager to get a high score in theCollege Entrance Examination, it is of significance to improve the ability of English readingcomprehension. The teachers think of the question that how to stimulate students’ readinginterest in order to improve the students’ English reading skills and reading ability. Thisarticle looks at the teaching of English reading in high school from the perspective ofsuggested teaching pedagogy.Suggestopedia was originally founded by Bulgaria’s most famous mental illnesspsychologists and educators G. Lozanov (Geogi lozanov) in the sixties of last century, thisteaching method is the integration of cognitive and emotional, analysis and synthesis,conscious and subconscious,combined with a musical background, to stimulate the learner’spsychological potential and interest in learning, then to improve the teaching effectivenesssubstantially, so it also known as the Lozanov method. Suggestopaedia to announce resultsfrom the study, validation, recognition, promotion, development, improve the experience for30years’ time, is still the world teaching theory, which fully reflects the vitality of theteaching methods implied. Under the guidance of Suggestopedia, teachers in the educationaland teaching activities are required to uphold the concept “happy study”, opposed the conceptof learning is endless suffering for the boat “hard study”, get help from a variety of suggestiveart means to create a favorable psychological atmosphere for students, and make students feelgood to learn, then give full play an active role of students’ subconscious to stimulate interestin learning, thereby enhancing learning efficiency. This fully reflects the objective of thecourse of English, already the quality of education for the purpose; adhere to people-oriented,attention to the full and harmonious development of teaching ideas. In short, this theoryprovides a theoretical basis for our English educational reform, and provides a new vision anddirection for educators of English language education teaching.This study focuses on developing students’ reading skills in English after referring to relative literatures on the study of Suggestopedia and English reading teaching at home andabroad. The main purpose of the research is to understand the problems of students in reading,then under the guidance of Suggestopedia, how to improve high school English readingachievement. Through relaxed classroom atmosphere created by Suggestopaedia to arouse thestudents’ enthusiasm for learning, and fully tap the potential of the students, to stimulatestudents’ interest in reading, to develop students’ English reading skills, thus to improve theEnglish teaching methods, and promote the improvement of teaching quality.This study designs carefully an experiment in order to verify the hypothesis on the basis of thestudy on the theory of Suggestopedia. The experiment chose students of grade one in seniorhigh school of two science medium parallel classes in Ganzhou III high school of JiangxiProvince as the samples for the study and carried out an experimental teaching semester. Theteaching of reading in experimental class adapted to Suggestopedia while the controlling classapplied traditional method. During the experiment, two class students must participate in theentrance exam in Ganzhou City Board of education in December,2011and June,2012and fillin the questionnaire, whose scores were analyzed by software SPSS11.0. The experimentalresults show that the students’ English reading scores in the experimental class have beengreatly increased than those in the controlling class. By analyzing the data from thequestionnaire survey, the method of Suggestopedia could improve students’ reading skillseffectively, stimulate students’ interest in reading and affect students’ reading attitudes,mobilize the enthusiasm of students, develop students’ integrated quality, promote Englishteaching and student’s comprehensive quality.
