Education, as a significant means of cultivating high quality talents and all-round students, is playing an increasingly important role. It is a crucial place that the physical education teaching occupies in the process of actualizing full-scale quality education. The teaching effect of basketball is directly influenced by the quality of the teaching in basketball. Through investigation and analysis of the status quo of middle schools’basketball teaching in Linyi, Shandong Province, this paper discusses the issue of development in basketball teaching under the background of New Curriculum Reform and at the same time puts foreword corresponding suggestions and measures thus giving a boost to the progress in Linyi’s middle school basketball teaching.On the basis of document, research methods such as questionnaire inventory, Delphi technique, and mathematical statistics are also applied to this paper to conduct the survey of the current status of basketball teaching in Linyi.(Objects includes the students and basketball teachers in Shandong Linyi No.1middle school, Linyi No.2middle school, Linyi No.3middle school, Linyi No.4middle school, Linyi No.5middle school, Linyi No.6middle school, Linyi No.7middle school, Linyi No.8middle school, Linyi No.9middle school and The Attached Middle school of Linyi Normal College) The result of the research indicates that:1. The age structure of the P.E teacher in Linyi’s middle schools is becoming basically reasonable:Young and middle-aged P.E teachers prevail while the number of senile and middle Ages are relatively small.2.Most P.E teachers in the middle schools in Linyi have the educational backgrounds of degree or above holder, which makes a qualified teachers queue; The majority of the P.E teachers graduated from normal colleges or universities and participated the training programs in the continuing education.3. In the ten middle schools in Linyi, the contents of basketball teaching which still maintain the traditional curriculum criterion are basically the same.4.In the ten middle schools in Linyi, the contents of basketball teaching which still maintain the traditional curriculum criterion are basically the same.5.The teaching scheduals for classes are arranged relativly concentrated in these middle schools in Linyi.6.The regular teaching mode "explaination-demonstration-practice" remains unchanged in these schools.Only a few P.E teachers are able to consider the pratical situation and seek for new teaching approaches and means in accordance with the spirit of curriculum reform.7.In these middle schools, a considerable number of P.E teachers possessing the antediluvian concept of teaching evaluationg system fail to keep pace with the new teaching evaluation system.8.From the10randomly selected schools5own school teams, which reveals the implementation of amateur basketball in these middle schools is good.To the problems existed in the basketball education for Linyi’s middle school students,this paper puts forward the following counter-measures and proposals:1.Change the teaching concept of competitive basketball in Linyi’s middle school and get students fully exercised in both mind and body by applying accelerated teaching mold to basketball programs.2.Theory classes in middle schools are supposed to make full use of multimedia teaching methods which will make technical actions lively and easy to conprehend for students. Simultaneously, correct concept of techniques as well as tactics is able to be set up and interests of learning can be increased.3. Establish and improve the relevant evaluation system according to the requirement of the new curriculum.4.Introduce outstanding talents with high level of education to serve the contingent of coaches’need and promote the training quality.
