It is clearly stated in the high school English curriculum standards thatlanguage skills are an important part of the ability to use language. Languageskills include listening, speaking, reading and writing skills as well ascomprehensive ability to use these four skills. Reading is an important inputskill, which plays a very important role in students’ English learning, theteaching of reading is also very important. Therefore, reading teaching is veryimportant. However, in actual English teaching, reading teaching is always theweak link of high school English classroom teaching, especially in some of thebackward areas in the western China. The main problem is that most students’basic English is generally poor. They have no interest in learning Englishand their reading methods are improper; Teachers’ teaching methods aregenerally single and their concept of the teaching of reading is relativelybackward. Students can not actively participate in the classroom activities, resulting in inefficient reading teaching and the teaching effect is not obviousenough. This is also a direct result of the students’ reading ability, which canseriously affect the students’ comprehensive ability of using language. Thetraditional high school English reading teaching is a teacher-centered teachingmode and students in the classroom are passive audiences. As time goes by, the traditional teaching methods can not fully arouses students’ enthusiasm, initiative and creativity. It is difficult to stimulate students’ interest in learning, leading to the efficiency of reading class being reduced greatly. TheGuided-Learning Plan is a new kind of teaching mode, which regards thestudents as the main body during study and encourages the students to learnthe course actively, which is called the student-centered teaching. This methodlets the student really to become the host of the study, making the studentsthemselves find problems and solve problems through team cooperation. Finally the students can effectively put what they learn into practice, thusimproving their willingness to participate in class activities; At the same time, the teachers are changed into the teaching guide, helper, participants, and theyare no longer the master of classroom teaching, this is a new reform in Englishclassroom teaching. It will fully improve the effect ofhigh school Englishreading teaching. Therefore, in this article I will combine the new curriculumstandard with the reality of the students in our school and I will conduct theactual research and exploration about the application of the Guided-learningPlan in high school English reading teaching. I hope that we can solve thepresent problems in high school English teaching effectively in order toeventually improve students’ reading ability and students’ comprehensiveability of using language.
