English reading teaching, which is the core of Senior High School English teaching,plays an important role in cultivating students’ reading ability, especially in capacity oflanguage using. However, the shortcoming of traditional teaching model ignoring themain role of students in classroom, which results many problems in English readingteaching and influences the improvement of English teaching quality. At present, one ofthe main objectives of teaching reform is to construct a new teaching model which isstudents-centered and embodies the main role of students but also exerts the guidance roleof teacher. Therefore, the guided learning plan teaching model appears under the newcurriculum reform. Guided learning plan is a teaching model, in which the teacher andstudents work together to accomplish the teaching, regarding learning plan as the carrier,the guidance as the method, teacher as the leading factor, and students’ autonomouslearning as the main body. It advocates the cognitive learning process of learning beforeteaching and emphasizes students-centered teaching approach.The study is based on the theory of Constructivism, Humanism, Discovery Leaning,Autonomous Learning and Meaningful Learning. The author carries out an experiment forfour months in the two parallel classes of class7and8in grade two in NanKang MiddleSchool, class7as Control Group, class8as Experimental Group, adopting questionnaire,interview, and experiment to testify the effect of application guided learning plan inEnglish reading teaching with the aim of discovering an effective way to improve SeniorEnglish reading teaching and students’ reading ability. Pre-test and post-test are conductedand the results of the two tests for each class are analyzed by SPSS. The results showsthat applying guided learning plan teaching model in reading teaching can not onlyeffectively improve students’ reading ability and academic achievements but alsostrengthen their capacity of autonomous learning and inquiry learning. Furthermore, italso has considerable effect on students’ classroom effectiveness.
