In the autumn of the year2001, Education Department required that English should be taught as a compulsory course from Grade3. At present, nearly all the public primary schools open English class from Grade3in our country. Some foreign language schools offer English class even since Grade1. But according to news report and personal experience, pupils attend kinds of private English tutoring at weekends or on holidays besides taking English class in the primary school. They go to kinds of English training classes or having family tutors. The main purpose is to become better and better in English learning. It’s very common for our city pupils to attend English training class, and it’s becoming more and more popular, even has a strong impact on the formal school English teaching.In this paper, the writer starts from the theory about teaching elements(students’ individual differences, teachers’ professional qualifications, teaching contents and teaching environments), draws upon foreign language pedagogy, educational psychology, English teaching theory as the theoretical foundation. The writer also mentioned the research on teaching organizational forms---the concept, pros and cons of individual instruction and classroom instruction. The writer investigated several primary schools and English training centers in Wuhan city, during the researching process, the writer adopted following research methods:questionnaire, interview and case study. According to the investigation, the writer analyzes the general situation of the tutorial market and primary school English education in Wuhan city. Then summarize the differences between them in teaching elements, try to find the different teaching effects in English subject.The writer gave out altogether300questionnaires in several English tutorial schools in Wuhan city. At the same time, with the help of my friends who are teaching in different primary schools, I gave out the questionnaires to the students in their classes. The writer also interviewed some parents, school English teachers and English tutorial teachers, in order to know the reasons why so many pupils attend tutorial class and the influence of attending English tutoring..The writer analyzes the reasons in three aspects:personal circumstances, school and society. All the parents hope their kids will have a good future. Many parents have no ability to tutor their kids. And there are many differences among kids in learning English. Also there are some problems in school English teaching which cannot satisfy the parents and students. And the social competition is becoming more and more fiercely. English is a very important subject in all the important examinations in China. All these factors influence whether to attend English tutoring.Then the writer analyzes the influences in positive and negative aspects. In one hand, attending tutoring can improve pupils’ grades, makes them more interested in English and become more confident; in the other hand, it may bring financial burden to parents and learning burden to the pupils. Some students may not abide by the classroom discipline, such as talking in the class, whispering to other students and so on, because they think they have learned that in tutoring class.At last, the writer gave some suggestions to the parents on how to choose proper English tutoring for their kids. Then analyzed some problems between tutoring market and tutorial schools and gave some suggestions on how to make English tutoring develop much healthier and better.I hope the thesis will be useful to help English teachers do much better in English education, and parents can have a correct understanding of their kids’English learning and education investment. If the paper can make a little help to the reform of English teaching in our country, I will be very lucky and honored.
