“The Horizon of expectation” is the core of the theory of Reception Aesthetics, whichemphasizes the importance of the reader in reading. The reader is not only the recipient ofAesthetic information, but also the master of the text. He/she always reads the text with the“front structure”, which integrates his/her own knowledge, life experience and view ofliterature. The reading process is the process to accept the impact of text, and it also is theprocess to re-create the text. Different reader has the different horizon of expectation, and itcauses the different understanding on the same text. This fact has given us manyrevelations, a lot of education innovators created the new education modes by the horizonof expectation. These new education modes solved the some problems of the literatureanalysis in the traditional language teaching. By following the standard of new curriculumreform, students are requested to pick up better reading experience and aestheticexperience by their own experiences. To realize it, teachers have to reduce the homeworkburden of students, improve the efficiency of the classroom, and give full play to students’potentials, respect the individual’s creative understandings. It also request students toimprove the reading amount, horizon and ability, build up the aesthetic standard. Weshould pay more attention on the theory and practice of the horizon of expectation in thelanguage teaching. This thesis is based on the horizon of expectation’s literature research, teacher&student survey.
