Teaching material of writing is the main tool and carrier that help teachers teachand students learn writing. Teaching material of writing is important curriculumresource. Teaching material of writing includes a country’s writing theory and practice.It also provides strong support to the construction of writing curriculum. Throughwriting material, we can know a country·s main contents of writing curriculum. Writinginstruction depends on the teaching material of writing. In China, there are lots ofproblems in writing instruction, which are closely related to the low workability ofteaching material of writing. Therefore, to improve the workability of teaching materialof writing is a good way to solve the problem of low efficiency and performance ofwriting instruction.Since the development of standards of educationμ, America has establisheddetailed standards of all subjects and different types of education, which is used as thecriterion for the formation of teaching materials. America is a country withhighly-developed marketization of teaching materials. Under the severe competition inthis field, the quality of teaching material is guaranteed, so is the workability ofteaching material of writing. The teaching material of writing is strictly developed andexamined under these standards.Look back to our country, in the background of the whole Chinese curriculumconstruction,writing is only one small part of the comprehensive teaching materials.Actually, we don’t have true independent teaching material of writing. Our textbooksare constructed with the reading as the main contents to present the Chinese knowledge.The low workability is obviously shown in our textbooks.In the research, two serials of textbooks of China and America are chosen. Writer’schoice is published by the Mcgraw-Hill Companies, one of the four biggest educationpublish corporation. The textbooks are also used by lots of states of America, which include New York, Ohio, Illinois and California. Another textbook is used by Shanghai,which is published by Shanghai Education Press.Selecting the workability of teaching material as a breakthrough point, comparingthe curriculum standards of China and America, I will analyze its way of formation andcontents. Writer’s choice can give us a lot of useful experience, which will be helpful toour country’s writing instruction.This paper is divided into the following chaptersChapter1is the introduction, includes research significance and purpose, researchbackground, the core concepts related to the research and methods.Chapter2is the general analysis of the two countries. This part consists of twosides: The analysis of Writer’s Choice and Our country’s textbook analysis.Chapter3is the first analysis of about workability of writing textbooks: theconfirmation of teaching contents. This part consists of three sides. The first is theconfirmation which the contents of writing textbooks with the writing curriculumstandards. The second is the presentation of writing knowledge in textbooks. The thirdis the relation between contents of writing textbooks and students’ life.Chapter4is the second analysis of about workability of writing textbooks: theeffectiveness of teaching organization. This chapter consists of three parts. The first isabout the writing textbooks stimulation for students’ writing interests and enthusiasm.The second is about the process organization of writing textbooks. The third is about thestructuring organization of writing instruction.Chapter5is the third analysis of about workability of writing textbooks: the clarityand acceptance of textbooks writing language. This chapter includes the clarity ofteaching language and the acceptance of teaching language.Chapter6is the conclusion. This chapter consists of two parts: the experience wecan learn from the Writer ’s Choice and the reflection for the research. The experiencewe can draw from Writer’s Choice includes four points. Firstly, writing is teachable andwriter can be fostered.Secondly, we should combine the basic expressing ways with the true writing styles to teach writing. Thirdly, we can learn from the process writing instruction. Lastly,improve the workability of the writing textbooks, which includes three importantmethods. They are,(1) to develop appropriate writing instruction contents;(2) tostrengthen the organization and presentation of teaching contents;(3) to improve thelanguage clarity and acceptance of writing textbooks.
