The unified version of junior secondary language textbooks refers to the "language textbooks" used from Grade 7 to Grade 9,which are written by the Education Bureau and edited and published by the People's Education Press.Since September 2017,the Unified Edition junior secondary language textbooks have been in use nationwide.The Writing Block refers to the writing block in the Unified Edition junior secondary language textbooks,which consists of the writing topics behind each unit in each book,and can be divided into four areas: writing objectives,writing knowledge,writing guidance and writing practice.Relying on the writing section of the Unified Edition junior secondary language textbook as the object of study,a specific analysis of the content of the material presented in the writing section is made.At the same time,the teaching content of writing is explored on the basis of the content of the textbook,and suggestions for teaching the writing block are made accordingly,so as to work together for the effective improvement of students' writing ability.This study analyses the content of the material presented in the writing section of the Unified Edition junior secondary language textbook.The writing objectives are explored at the level of explicit presentation and association of unit writing objectives;the knowledge of writing in the textbook is sorted out at the level of stylistic and procedural knowledge;and the content presentation of the textbook is analysed at the level of writing instruction and writing practice.At the same time,this study used questionnaires to survey students and teachers in two aspects: "teachers' and students' overall views on the writing block" and "teachers' and students' use of the writing block".After the results of the survey were tallied and analysed,the problems that existed were summarised,namely,unfamiliarity with the writing blocks in the textbook,lack of awareness of the integration of reading and writing,neglect of the learning and extension of writing knowledge,and teachers' weakened guidance of the writing process.Based on the content of the teaching materials and research,this study has sorted out the teaching contents and concluded that the teaching of the writing section of the Unified Edition junior secondary language teaching materials should be based on the contents of developing students' good language habits,the contents of developing students' thinking about writing and the contents of promoting students' independent expression.The study proposes teaching strategies for the writing block,i.e.teachers are advised to set the objectives of writing instruction based on writing learning;to read to promote writing and extend the content of writing training;to implement process-oriented guidance for writing instruction and design writing instruction based on students' writing process and teachers' guidance process;to focus on writing instruction and pay attention to the writing revision process;and to stimulate readers' awareness and focus on essay level assessment.
