In the international backdrop of the concept of "active aging", the elderly self-dependence is more and more cherished. The elder self-dependence is not only the objective reality demand of social policy formulation, but also is the old men’s life pursuit. Self-dependence can make the elderly to improve their life quality and family status, and live more dignified. Xilin Haote is known as "prairie pearl", and it gathers Mongolian, han, Tibetan, hui and other ethnic groups. Xilin Haote has entered into the aging society. This research aims to explore the self-dependence status and the factors affecting the self-dependence of the elderly in Xilin Haote, and provide basic data and suggestions for social security policies.The elderly self-dependence research has important theoretical significance and practical significance. Firstly, it plays an important role in promoting the development of the concept of "active aging" by effectively measuring the self-independence status and the factors affecting the self-dependence. Secondly, this research could provide a new perspective for geriatric sociology research.In this research, the elderly self-dependence is divided into three dimensions:economic independence, life independence, and conscious independence. Each independent dimensions includes several indicators. And the independence level is measured by the total score which through various index added.This research uses quantitative research methods and cluster sampling method. We surveyed500individuals and recycled468effective questionnaires by using questionnaire investigation and interview30people. We gets the following conclusions by descriptive analysis, multiple linear regression analysis and correlation analysis.Firstly, the income of the elderly mainly comes from pensions. The physiological factor affecting the old men’s economic independence is age. The social factors are education, working status, and housing property.Secondly, The physiological factors affecting the old men’s life independence are gender, age, and chronic diseases. The social factors are degree of education, living mode, family support and housing facilities.Thirdly, The physiological factors affecting the old men’s conscious independence is feeling health. The social factors are the communication frequency with the children of cohabitation, the communication frequency with the children of the non-living together, and the pension.At last, these three dimensions are not isolated, but influence each other. They forms a closed structure.
