English teaching at the senior high school stage,as a connecting link,bonds the process that the students access to education.Faced with the complicated education reform,that is New Curriculum Reform,English teacher at the senior school assumes the heavy responsibility of developing the excellent English talents.It’s important for them to accumulate the rich cultural capital and increase its stock.Cultural capital is the foothold for them to adapt the NCR and the secret weapon to improve the teaching quality.There are three forms of cultural capital accumulated:Embodied cultural capital reflects in knowledge and ability the teacher owns;objective cultural capital includes English books owned and articles issued by the teacher;Institutionalized cultural capital is related with the titles and certificates the teacher achieves.Combined with the content of teacher’s professional development, this essay aims at understanding the present situation about the cultural capital accumulation of English teacher at the senior high school by using the questionnaire survey,interview and observation methods.According to the forms of cultural capital,the questions of questionnaire survey are set,and300English teachers from Taiyuan,Changzhi,Jincheng,Shuozhou,etc.are selected.The interview includes4targeted teachers and observes1teacher.The conclusions are as follows:firstly, the number of young teachers below29years old is the largest. As a potential power,they should always keep a learner attitude and seize critical period of5years’development for constantly accumulating the knowledge and improving the ability; secondly, the teachers,with5-10years’teaching experience,have strong enterprising spirit,and their comprehensive level has been upgraded to a certain degree. They act as backbone force; the school should give full play to their ability; thirdly, there is a significant educational background and title differences in teachers’ability and objected cultural capital. This essay gives the advices about promoting English teachers for accumulating the cultural capital from two sides of English teacher team and teacher personal by analyzing the related results.
