With the expanded enrollment scale of postgraduates and the increased proportion of self-funding and professional degree postgraduates in our country, the number of poor postgraduates will grow accordingly, which has gradually made the aid for them a focus of the society. According to the statistics of the Financial Department of the Ministry of Education, poor students account for15%to30%of the overall students in colleges. However, in the four subordinate agricultural colleges in this paper, poor postgraduates account for27.07%of the overall postgraduates. Under the new circumstance, the aid for poor postgraduates in subordinate agricultural colleges is facing a greater challenge. After a general introduction of relevant literatures on the aid for poor postgraduates at home and abroad as well as a combination of information from survey and interview, I have defined and found out the relevant concept and connotation of the aid for poor postgraduates in this paper. The theoretical basis and fundamental principle of the aid have been summarized. From such four aspects as the object, subject, fund and measure of the aid, I have also explored the status of it, analyzed the major problems and put forward some solutions to improve the aid for poor postgraduates in subordinate agricultural colleges, which has enriched inadequate theory in the aid to some extent and provided valuable reference to improve the status of the aid for poor postgraduates in subordinate agricultural colleges. The paper takes as the theme the aid for poor postgraduates in subordinate agricultural colleges and have a systematic and comprehensive research with the focus on the object, subject, fund and measure of the aid. The paper is divided into six parts in a logic order of introduction, theory, status, problems, solutions and conclusion. The first part introduces the background, meaning, content and method of the research and generally explains the relevant literatures on the aid for poor students at home and abroad. The second part elaborates on the basic theory of the aid and draws a conclusion of poor postgraduates’ features such as different ages, complex identities, various demands, multiple pressures, relatively economy, contradictory mental problems and so on. It also includes the idea that the aid for poor postgraduates should be given on the basis of demands and differences. We should combine the material aid with ability aid as well as paid aid and free aid.The third part shows the result of the survey and interview about part of the poor postgraduates in the four subordinate agricultural colleges. It turns out that the living status of them is quite worrying and poor postgraduates have little knowledge of aid policy. They are satisfied with the positivity of the subject of aid and not quite acceptable for the effectiveness of the measure of aid.The fourth part and the fifth part analyses the problems in the aid for the poor postgraduates in subordinate agricultural colleges from such four aspects as the object, subject, fund and measure of aid and put forward targeted solutions. There exist some problems like uncertain aid object, inactive aid subject, insufficient aid fund, ineffective aid measures and so on. To improve the status, we need to make the aid object clearer, fully stimulate the initiative of aid subject, widen the channels of raising funds, increase the efficiency of funding using, construct a new aid system, integrate and set up a bundle of aid, offer special scholarship for poor postgraduates, develop project aid, establish the mechanism of special student loan, provide more opportunities for students to do part-time jobs while studying in or out of school and grant special subsides and allowances, to satisfy students who need them. The last part draws a conclusion of the main idea in this paper, makes some points of the shortcomings of the research and introduces some expectations of the development of the research in the future.
