Research On City Limb-disabled People’s Marriage Problems And Intervention Strategy

Everyone and every family’s harmonious life are fundamental elements of constructing the harmonious society. Marriage is the foundation of a family. The disabled individual, as a member of the Chinese society, has the same needs and liberty to love and get married as the healthy people. However, in reality, the disabled people did not satisfy well with their demand of marriage, because of the physical factor and social barriers. Comparing with the healthy people, it is more difficult for the disabled people to get married. Besides, the divorce rate and the widowed rate are so high, the marriage quality is in bad condition. After operation or with action substitutes, the limb-disabled people can be more capable. Their social integration is better than the other disabled people. However, what about their marriage? How about their satisfaction of the demand of marriage? Consequently, author uses questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews, with Fuzhou center city’s limb-disabled people, to discover and describe the good trend in the limb-disabled people; to depict the high unmarried rate, inadequate formal support for their marriage, the serious discrimination against the disabled, so as their children, which lead to psychological problems such as inferiority. Then author analyzes the influencing factors limb-disabled people’s marriage status in Fuzhou city, which are the results of the physical and social barriers. On the basis of the above analysis, author evaluates the main marriage need of the limb-disabled people in Fuzhou city, and then builds a support network which is leaded by relevant government departments and disabled persons’ federation, followed by folk organizations as a main force. Every subject of the network must implement their specific intervention strategy to improve the limb-disabled people’s marriage status in city, to help disabled people engage into the society, and to build the harmonious society.
