Social work is a product of modern industrial society in the West, its values, ideals and methods can be traced back to the intellectual traditions of ancient Greek and Hebrew religious tradition. But with the expansion of Western civilization to the world, social work needs to face local situation when it’s applied to other countries, that is, the system of knowledge of modern social work mainly come from the West, while its clients and circumstances are from the Rest. In addition, both the ethical dilemmas of western modernization and the trend of globalization make every country explore the process of localization in order to adapt to internationalization. China is no exception also; its social work faces the task of localization, especially in the field of concept and value. Therefore, it is particularly important for us to absorb the ideas and spirit of Chinese traditional culture.Among the various charity cultures in China, I chose the Buddhist charity as the object of study, because it was an important force in the history of Chinese charity. Under the influence of the religious policy in China since the1980s, Buddhism was coming back to life, Buddhist organizations and its Buddhists uphold the spirit of "honoring the country, benefiting the human beings", continue to carry forward Buddhist tradition of charity and helping, and actively participate in social public service activities. However, nowadays Buddhist charity encountered the bottleneck of the development once again; need to improve its level of specialization and professionalization. And this is precisely the advantage of the social work; thus, there is the possibility of complementary advantages. However, in my opinion, social work and Buddhist charity is not equal in the process of interaction, the former is the "branch", the latter is the "root", that is, it’s the relationship between fundamental core and specific measures. Through Outlook the future of Buddhist social work, this paper will come up with some methods in order to contribute to the achievement the win-win of indigenization of social work and the professionalization of Buddhist charity, and thus speed up the process of building a harmonious society in China. In addition, I conducted a survey and questionnaire in Nanjing. Through Statistical analysis and quantitative research, the conclusion of the paper will be more convincing.
