As the college enrollment has expanded since the late1990s, the shortage of teacher resources became the important issues of the universities.In order to alleviate this situation, many universities introduce talents. Local colleges and universities are the important part of Chinese universities, the number of young teachers in local colleges are growing fastly. Young teachers have become an important force in the local colleges and universities. They will undertake the crucial tasks of teaching, research and management. The development of local colleges and universities depend largely on young teachers. Therefore, how to promote the professional development of young teachers has become an significant matter in the local colleges and universities.University teachers’professional development is the process which teachers should enrich and perfect their professional quality structure in their professional lives.Following the rules of the stages of teachers’professional development, and according to needs of school discipline professional development and young teachers’ development, it is important to formulate scientific plannings to better young teachers’ development. However, not only young teachers,but also the personnel management department they all not pay enough attention to the young teachers’ development.It is expressed in two parts, first, young teachers lack long-term planning;second, school personnel management department lack guidance for young teachers’professional development.In the competitive situation of universities, how to speed up young teachers’ development is important for universities’ survival. Young teachers are in the crucial stage of their career life. Making a scientific and reasonable professional development planning is not only good for young teacher clearing their goals, grasping their development directions,but also good for them making their ideal more operational.This thesis focuses study on the young teachers’ professional development in the local colleges and universities. Using questionnaires to investigate the current situation of young teachers’ professional development, making further research on the problems of young teachers, this paper explores the regularity in the process of young teachers’ professional development. It hopes to find practical and effective ways to promote young teachers’professional development in local colleges and universities. This thesis summarizes as follows:First of all, university young teachers professional development can be divided into professional knowledge, ability and spirit three parts, which are harmony. There are four stages of young teachers’professional development in local colleges and universities, namely, pre-service, introduction, competency, experimentation and reassement.Secondly, The problems of teachers’professional development in local colleges and universities has three aspects. First, it is the obstacles of the young teacher themselves; Second, the system of young teachers’ professional development is not perfect; Third, the environment of young teachers’ professional development needs to be optimized. It also has three reasons to cause these problems, which includes both subjective reasons and system and material level reasons.Thirdly, The achievements of young teachers’ professional development is not a random process. It not only needs plans to guide the teachers, but also needs specific strategies to help the teachers. Local colleges and universities should pay attention to the teachers’ professional development plans, and give the guidances to the teachers. In order to promote their own professional development, young teachers should initiatively formulate and implement the plans. Based on this, no matter young teachers and local colleges, they should follow the regularity in the process of professional development to make the strategies. Specifically, this paper finds four practical and effective ways to promote young teachers’professional development in local colleges and universities. It includes the following aspects:First, making a scientifical and reasonable professional development planning. Second, clearing professional development requirements at the different professional stages. Third, establishing a guarantee mechanism of young teachers’ professional development. Forth, constructing the external environment to promoting young teachers’ professional development.In short, on the basis of the advance experience form home and abroad, not only young teachers themselves must have a strong sense of self-development, the local colleges and universities must also provide good conditions for young teachers, building a guarantee mechanism to promote young teachers’ professional development.
