Geography classroom combines both geographic images and geography text.Geography image is like the mouth of geography, the clothes of geography. It is amagic weapon of geography which makes geography diverse and vivid. However,great efforts should be made to truly understand the meaning of geographic image andgrasp the pulse of geography image. Students in the face of geography image often donot know how to deal with, so it is an urgent need to cultivate the students’ ability toread geographic maps.A mind map is a thinking tool which embodies the divergent thinking andenables the idea of the brain being expressed into a form of words and images. A mindmap can help people’s mind and memorize so effectively that stimulates a person’sfull potential when they’re thinking and memorizing.The discussion of how using mind map in high school’s geography teachinginfluent students’ ability of geographic map reading, has a certain theoretical andpractical significance. Therefore, the author did an application research of mind mapin the process of training students’ ability of geography map reading and tried to applymind map to the high school geography image teaching to look for effective ways tocultivate geographical map reading ability of high school students. This paper notonly putting forward to the research’s background and significance, but also illustratesmind map, geographic image and geographic map reading ability respectively; In themain body part, the thesis expounds the value for teacher and student in thecultivation of student’s geography map reading ability by using mind mapping; Onthis basis, taking the DaQing first middle school’s two classes as the experimentalobject, via practical cases of using mind map in geography teaching, make statisticsand analysis the results of this research and conclusion related, proposes the shortagesof this research and future research direction. Research has shown that using mindmapping in teaching high school geography image teaching can vividly conveygeographical knowledge, stimulate students’ interest in learning and motivation. Italso enables students to obtain image information effectively, clearly shows thenet-like structure of geographical knowledge. Meanwhile it makes students moreeasily to combine images and text together and improve the efficiency of reading. And to make a mind map by the team together can also promote students’ interactivegroup-learning.
