college dorm interpersonal relationship are very important for college student,which has had a serious impact on the life of college students and their physical andmental development, thus, to solve college student dormitory interpersonal problemsis an important part of cultivating students’ psychological health. As to the previousstudies which focused on the objective factors which affect dormitory interpersonalrelationship, this study starts from the personality of college students withdocumentary method, and a combination of questionnaires and interviews to explorethe relevance between personality characteristics and dormitory interpersonalrelationship and the impact of dormitory relationship by different personality match. Iissued420questionnaires among students from3universities in Qinghai Province andtook back382valid ones. The results are as follows:(1)Tibetan student dormitory interpersonal relationship is significantly betterthan Han students. There is no significant difference in personality dimensionbetween the two. But Han students are much more extroversive than Tibetan students.(2) There is no significant difference between men and women in the dormitoryinterpersonal relationship. As to the dormitory harmonious emotion factor w, girls aremuch better in the agreeableness than boys and there is no significant difference inother dimensions of personality.(3) There is significant difference on the four interpersonal factors and the totalscores in all grades. The difference in neuroticism, agreeableness, and sense ofresponsibility is massive between different grades. Neuroticism will increase whengrade rises, and agreeableness and conscientiousness drops when grade rises.(4) Students majored in liberal arts score higher than students majored in sciencein interpersonal harmony, interpersonal interference and interpersonal scores.Agreeableness for liberal arts students scores significantly higher than sciencestudents.(5) The only-child scores significantly higher than non-only child only in thecommunication factor, while lower in all the other factors and the total score. On thepersonality aspect, the only-child’s openness to experience is significantly higher thanthe non-one child, and the difference is not significant on other dimensions.(6)There were not significant differences between city and rural area in dormitory interpersonal relationships. So far as to personality, the openness toexperience of urban students is significantly higher than students in small towns andrural students. And the agreeableness of urban students and students from small townsis significantly lower than rural students.(7)There were not significant differences between student cadres and non-student leaders in dormitory interpersonal relationships. So far as to the personalityaspects, the student leaders behave much better in the three dimensions ofextraversion, openness to experience and conscientiousness.(8)Neuroticism and emotional harmony, regional difference, interferenceinfluence, dormitory interpersonal grade showed a significantly negative correlation;extraversion and emotional harmony, behavioral communication, interferenceinfluence, dormitory interpersonal grade showed a significantly positive correlation.Agreeableness and the four factors, interpersonal grade was positively correlated.Conscientious and the four factors, interpersonal grade was positively correlated.(9) Neuroticism, agreeableness, conscientiousness go into emotional harmonyregression equation explained20.9%of the total variance; neuroticism, agreeableness,conscientiousness enter to dormitory interpersonal relationships regression equationexplained17.7%of the total variance; agreeableness, grade, neuroticism, gender,conscientiousness enter to dormitory interpersonal relationships regression equationexplained24.6%of the total variance. Agreeableness has the most predictableinfluence on dormitory interpersonal relationship.(10) Students of different personality types vary a lot in the emotional rapportfactor, regional difference factor and dormitory interpersonal relationship factor. Thepersonality dimension has a combined impact on the dormitory interpersonalrelationship. The match of personality types in the dormitory determines the quality ofthe interpersonal relationship.
