Since <Full-time compulsory education mathematics curriculum standards(trialversion)> has been promulgated by the Ministry of Education in July2001, various ofmathematics teaching materials in accordance with this standard have beenintroduced. Mathematics teaching material of Junior high school by East ChinaNormal University and Jiangsu Science and Technology Education Publishing Housebegan to experiment across the country after being examined in succession by theMinistry of Education.The object of this paper is experimental mathematics materials(eighth grade the next volume of the dual linear equation group of this chapter)pressed by East China Normal University and Jiangsu Science and TechnologyEducation Publishing House, in accordance with the education policy at this stage.Mathematics curriculum standards are the main reference object, and compares twoversions of the part about variables and functions from areas such as knowledgestructure, detailed analysis of the preparation of structure, examples and exercises,presentations, then sum up the respective characteristics of new materials and putforth some specific reform proposals the new materials in order to facilitate thegeneral front-line teachers and junior high school students for reference.Generallyspeaking, the two versions of teaching materials about the part of variables andfunctions both reflect the requirements of the mathematics curriculum standardsand have different characteristics about the present, analysis, solve of the questions.We can conclude that the main characteristics of East China Normal University Pressexperimental materials include: Compact arrangement, language is simple tounderstand; teaching purposes in each section are relatively clear and clear hierarchy,and teaching requirements are easier to grasp; basic knowledge and skills are easierto implement; setting up different degrees of exercises, application questions andopen questions for students’ demands; the presentation of contents is new andprovide study platform of students’ creation; the test is concise with vivid pictures;better reflects the basic idea of the " the curriculum standards of compulsoryeducation", highlights the characters of fundamental, universal and development. The main characteristics of Jiangsu Science and Technology Education Pressexperimental materials include: a compact layout, language features to expressinterests of the students; with wide range of problem scenarios, to create richsubject matter and reflect the requirements of the times; put the importance ofmodern information technology, and have effective impact on student learning;concerning about the mathematical culture, reflect the culture of mathematics fromthe history,and better reflect the basic concept of "Curriculum standards ofcompulsory education" and highlights the fun and development.The study also showsthat this part of “variables and functions” of the two sets of textbooks are not whollysatisfactory. The shortcomings of East China Normal University Press experimentalmaterials are the lack of knowledge of mathematical science, preciseness, science.And also the depth and wideness of materials are too weak to understand forstudents. Again, the form of presentation is not so precious that students can’t knowthe origin of knowledge or how to use the knowledge to serve our society. What tobe open to question of Jiangsu Science and Technology Education Press experimentalmaterials is that the scene of individual issues is too difficult and complex from thisperspective of self-learning; jump process is too large of knowledge; basic knowledgeis not deep enough and the amount of the exercises, training is not enough.Especially for young teachers who are just to work, the threshold of the kit is a bithigh and difficult to grasp.Teachers must have the ability to control textbook, useteaching materials appropriately and necessarily re-engineer and deep process basedon the teaching objectives to be achieved, reasonable basis to the textbook, and theknowledge base and psychological characteristics of the students.
