Teaching material of physics is the carrier of scientific thought of physics, scientific knowledge, scientific methods and scientific quality. It directly determines what to teach students, what ability to cultivate and what idea to educate. It is directly related to the provision of basic education in the direction of physics and to whether it can meet the needs of social development. The study of physics teaching materials is necessary for its self-development. In order to adapt to the modern teaching model and the development of the socialist market economy demand for qualified personnel, the current secondary school physics teaching materials must accelerate the pace of reform. And therefore the study of foreign materials from abroad is an effective way.In this paper, we selected English GCSE physics textbook and Chinese Junior Middle School physics textbook in Jiangsu Science and Technology version as a teaching material for comparison. From a middle school physics teacher's point of view, through the method of the description and literature analysis, we have made a comprehensive and systematic comparison with teaching materials of physics in Chinese and British middle school, including the preparation of the basis of materials -- National standards for curriculum, structure of teaching materials, teaching content and appear way. We have summarized the Sino-British similarities and differences and have given some advice with the actual situation in our country . The materials structure and teaching content should be considered more to be in accordance with the middle school students'cognitive and mental level. Strengthen the students'ability in grasping the concept of physical system. Broaden scope of knowledge which closely contacts with modern life and reflects contemporary progress of science and technology in teaching materials; stimulate students to participate in class actively; pay attention to "From Life to Physics, From Physics to Life"; train students'abilities to use physics in practice; develop students'awareness of the obligation of citizens.
