When the teaching activities occur, being promoted by the utilitarian motivationthat makes the teaching better, the education researchers have studied and exploredit, which enriches the idea of the effective teaching. So, effective teaching is an oldbut eternal topic in the educational field. Senior high schools have more pressurecompared with other forms of schools. As the senior high school students will facethe National College Entrance Examinations, how to improve the English teachingquality is an important and heated topic. The21st century is an information epoch,during which the world is undergoing great changes in all walks of life. Anyone whohas grasped the education facing the21st century will be in the initiative position ofstrategy in the international competition in the21st century. Though the declarationof effective teaching has been voiced throughout the country for a long time, in thepractice of English classroom teaching in our country, the phenomenon of ineffectiveteaching and learning still exists. Many teachers use traditional teaching strategiesregardless of students’ true abilities. Students are bored with English learning, just inorder to pass the exams. Under this background, it is of unprecedented significanceand it is also the result of the theoretical call and practical requirement that we try tostudy the features of English subject and the characters of high school students’English learning so as to improve the effectiveness of teaching, to approach effectiveteaching and to carry out effective English teaching in senior high schools.This research starts with the introduction of the principle of “effectiveteaching” which originated from the western countries in the first half of the20thcentury. It introduces the definition and principle of “effective teaching” first, andgives a brief account of the domestic and international research state. And thencomb the theories which supporting the effective teaching. Next, guided by thesetheories, by experiencing the true scenario of senior high school English classroomteaching, I mainly adopted these research methods such as classroom observation,questionnaire and so on to obtained the first-hand teaching data and by simpleanalysis I summarized all kinds of problems existing in the inefficient English teaching and their different causes. In the last part of this research, based on the classroominstruction microscopic domain and just from how to teaching according to learning,I propose the effective teaching strategies of the senior high school English for thehigh school English teachers in the new period. To be more specific, these strategiesinclude the improvement of teachers’ quality, scientific teaching design, theimplementation of teaching assessment. Adding many vivid examples to the pointgiven in every part, it is practical and it will be certain to offer a lot of instructions tothe effective English teaching in senior high schools.
