As China’s economy is booming, China and Italy relationship in political, economic, cultural, science, technology, education aspects have been constantly deepened. In2006, Italy held "Italian Culture Year" in China. From October2010to September2011, to commemorate the40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy, China held "Chinese Culture Year" in Italy. During this period China has organized more than100events in more than10cities like Rome, Milan, Florence, displaying China’s traditional culture remains and the achievement of Chinese’s modern society development; in addition, China also held economy and trade, science and technology, education, tourism and other activities in order to promote friendly exchanges. Italy also like many other countries in the world, is experiencing an upsurge in Chinese language learning, so the education of Chinese is getting more and more attention. In order to meet the demand of people who can speak Chinese in Italy, many universities and even secondary schools have opened Chinese language courses.Historically, Italy is one of the first Europe’s countries starting Chinese teaching. Early in the16th century, China and Italy have established close cultural bonds; Italian missionaries in China not only spread Christianity, but at the same time introduced the Italian scientific culture such as astronomy, mathematics, music, etc. into China together with bringing Chinese culture to Europe. But in the modern times, compared with other European countries such as France, Britain, the Chinese teaching in Italy fall behind a lot, especially in secondary school. In the1950s and1960s, the French and British secondary schools began to set up Chinese language courses, in France in1958, secondary schools opened Chinese required courses. But so far, the Italian secondary schools offering Chinese courses are rare, and belong to elective courses. However, thanks to the enthusiasm of the Italians students for Chinese language and the close cooperation between China and Italy in the field of education, especially in basic education’s field, we believe that the future there will be a substantial increase of Italian students learning Chinese in middle schools.In2012thanks to the opportunity offered by the Confucius Institute of Venice, I had the chance to teach Chinese language in a middle school. This paper, starting from the internship practice, present and analyzes Chinese language teaching in Italian’s middle school. This article is divided into four chapters, the first chapter introduces the background of the thesis, Meaning and research status; Chapter Ⅱ, recalling the history of Chinese language teaching in Italy, and introduced contemporary Italian Chinese teaching.
