Entrance education for college freshmen is the first chapter of college life, which is acrucial part of ideological and political education in Chinese higher education. The implementof ideological and political education contributes to freshmen’s knowledge about collegeeducation, the basic characteristics, and requirements of life and study in college. This is asignificant stage as freshmen can complete the role-changing process of adjusting theiridentities to college students, and develop the abilities of self-management, self-education,active learning, the determination to become talents and create an enthusiastic and high-spiritedstate of mind. Therefore, universities and colleges should attach more importance to entranceeducation for college students by conducting in-depth researches and improving the entranceeducation system. Only in this way can entrance education exert positive impacts on students’growth and development.Reviewing the development of entrance education in the recent decade, the author findsthat though some breakthroughs have been made in some aspects the concept ofpeople-oriented principle has not been merged into the consensus of entrance education orbetter practiced and promoted. The paper thus tries to discuss how to promote people-orientedentrance education based on the studies of its current situation and problems and to work out amore targeted and practical system so as to make some contributions to the improvement ofentrance education.
