This research examines the children’s qualities which are highly valued by parents and tries to analyse the factors that affect the parents’ values and beliefs,in which both the quantitative method and the qualitative method are used.Firstly,based on open-end interviews and questionnaire,as well as literature related to parents’ educational expectations and parents’ values,this paper tries to comprehensively understand the specific contents which include five sections of health, language, sociality, science and art,and then compiles the questionnaire of parents’ values of the children’s qualities.After preliminary investigation and revision to the structure and items, the formal questionnaire is well formed with better validity and reliability, secondly, the formal questionnaire is used to examine the parents’ values about children’s qualities.the research analyses the datum by one-way analysis of variance,Multi-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis to explore the factors affect parents’ values. Thirdly, the researcher interviews17parents about the parents’ beliefs of children’s qualities.Conclusions are drawn as follows after the analysis by the quantitative method and the qualitative method.1. In the following four variances such as children’s age, region,parents’ occupation and educational degree,there are significant differences in parents’values of children’s qualities.In the following two variances such as children’s gender and parents’ category,there is no big difference in parents’ values.2. there is no big difference in the influences on parents’ values of children’s qualities in nurturing by the interactions of children’s age, gender and parents’ category. The interaction between children’s age and region is notable.The interaction between parents’occupation and educational degree is not notable.3.The multiple regression analysis of parents’ values shows that among six independent variables, the parents’ educational degree and occupation have bigger influences on parents’ values of children’s qualities than children’s age. In the cases that other variables are controlled, children’s age, parents’ occupation and educational degree have significant differences in the influences of parents’ beliefs,the other variables have no significant differences.4.By semi-structured interviews with seventeen parents, the researcher recognizes the specific figure of "good children"in parents eyes and the contents of children’s qualities which parents value and expect from the micro levels.there are four sections of children’s qualities:health,knowledge and ability,sociality and art.Finally,the research puts forward some suggestion about updating educational beliefs and valuing all-round development of children’s qualities.
