Research On The Development And Operational Management Of The Textbook Supplying Information System In Henan University

As the key work of institutions of higher education, teaching is the major route to fulfill the mission ofeducation. It exerts direct influence or even determines the quality of talent cultivation in higher educationinstitutions. Being the knowledge carrier of the teaching content and teaching methodology, textbooksconstitute the basic tool of teaching and a guarantee of the teaching quality. Thus, strengthening thetextbook management and improving the textbook supplying scientificity, effectiveness, and practicality arenot only required by high-quality teaching and high educational achievements, but also the key toenhancing textbook supplying capacity in the new circumstances.In recent years, teachers’ and students’ demands become increasingly complicated, diversified, andpersonalized along with the expanding enrollment, and the implementation of academic credit system andvoluntary textbook booking system in higher education. Based on these characteristics and demands oftextbook supply, higher education institutions vigorously promote textbook management informationizationmainly through the development of the information system in textbook supply, which has relieved theimbalance in the textbook supply and need to some degree. However, due to the insufficiency of the systemdevelopment and operational management, the expectation has not been reached in many informationsystems, like low feasibility, procedural rationality, and data accuracy, together with untimely maintenanceand operational inefficiency. This leads to low coefficient of the system utilization, financial income, andcustomer satisfaction. Hence, to meet the demands of teaching, it is emergent and important to deepen thestudy on the system development and management, and effectively arrange and control the system planning,designing, implementing, and operating in all levels and at all stages, which will improve its adequacy,practicality, and effectiveness.On the grounds of current research findings, with theories in information system management, andresearch methods like literature, analytical approach, graphical method, the thesis analyzes the status quo ofthe textbook supplying information system in Henan University, discusses the problems in the systemdevelopment and operational management, puts forward concrete counter-measures’ in renewing themanagement concept, perfecting studies on the necessity and feasibility of the system, analyzingcustomer’s needs, modifying functional application, specifying the development mode and speed, arranging implementation, and ensuring system safety, in order to construct a practical, convenient, and effectivetextbook supplying information system in Henan University, and provide successful experience for otherhigher education institutions.
