The Paradigm Of Government Authority Among The Chinese University—under The Principal-Agent Theory

Interdependent and mutually contradictory relationship has always existed between the government and universities. On the one hand, the government needs to get itself involved in the internal affairs of the universities to realize its own willingness. On the other hand, universities will not give up their autonomy. The paradigm of government authority in the universities refers to the legitimacy, limitation and resulting regulatory authority boundary of the intervention of government. The research on paradigm of government authority in the university is an important part of building the modern university system, which helps balance the contradiction between the university and government and improve the theoretical structure of higher education governance.The logic and outline of this study is organized by the sequence of introduction-theory-history-game theory-conclusion. Firstly, this study did a brief introduction, making definition of the core concept related to the topic. Secondly, this study interprets the process of how government authority operates within the university by introducing the principal-agent theory to support the research theoretical framework. After that, the study uses the principal-agent theory to analyze the paradigm of government authority in the Chinese university from the historical perspective. Meanwhile, based on the learning from the paradigm of government authority in Chinese university, this study analyzes the current status of Chinese university. The conclusion is made to reconstruct the paradigm of government authority through the principal-agent theory.
