Over recent years, psychological health problem among students has beenincreasingly serious. And attention from various social sectors has been drawn to thepsychological health education in elementary and secondary schools. As the educationalresult is directly influenced by the professional level of psychological health educatorsin elementary and secondary schools, the key to effectively carrying out psychologicalhealth education lies in improving the professionalism of psychological health teachers.This research, based on the previous studies, made questionnaires and interviewoutlines. It took psychological health education teachers from primary and secondaryschools in Changyang Tujia Autonomous County as an example. Through questionnaireand interview investigations, it had an in-depth analysis on the professionalismdevelopment status of physiological health education teachers in minority areas. Thewhole questionnaire was divided into four parts, namely, personal information ofteachers, professionalism and training, work status related to physiological health andoutside support for professional development. And the interview outline included threeparts, the degree of attention to psychological health education and teachers’professional development given by relevant authorities in the education sector andschool leaders, the recruitment, training and assessment of psychological healtheducation teachers as well as outside support for professional development. What theresearch indicated are as follows. On the one hand, the psychological health work ofprimary and secondary schools in Changyang County has witnessed a rapiddevelopment during recent years, thus having an intensified demand for related full-timeteachers. On the other hand, the teachers are currently at a low level of professionalism,which is mainly caused by the following four reasons. Firstly, the adverse socialenvironment imposes many negative impacts on psychological health education; Secondly, there is a lack of organization and guidance from relevant governmentalinstitutions and education departments; Thirdly, there are not enough outside supportsfrom families, schools and society; Lastly, psychological health education teachers areof relatively low professional awareness and in shortage of professional consciousness,professional skills and qualities, and plus, they lack professional self-developmentconsciousness. According to the research results, it put forward some countermeasuresto facilitate the professional development of psychological health education teachersfrom the perspectives of objective environment and of subjective factors respectively.
