The Study On The Feasibility Of Implementing Billard Selective Course In Universities In Urumuqi

With the implementation of west development strategy in recent year in China,the pace of development of Urumqi increases rapidly and the quality of peoples’ lifeas well. Therefore, people pay more attention to the cultivation of awareness onphysical exercise and implementation of physical health concept. The State Councilissued “the Decision to Deepen Education Reform and Promote Quality Education.”points out that the education of school should set up guiding ideology of health first,practically strengthen the sports work, so that students master basic motor skills, andcultivate a good habit of exercise. Moreover, health first not only is the guidingideology of education in school, but also the guiding ideology of college sportseducation. Billiard sport is an elegant activity of sport in which athletes are needed touse both their physical strength and intelligence. In addition, it requires less fromsports ground, equipment and investment. However, combining the interesting andchallenging, it has the features of easy learning and spreading, which accord with therequirements of development of college students’ health and psychology.Through the scientific research methods of documentation, Delphi technique,questionnaire and statistics, the present study investigates and analyzes the situationof hardware and software facilities of billiard sports in Urumqi colleges and thespread of billiard culture comprehensively. The research subjects are college710students from11colleges in Urumqi,54physical teachers and chief leaders and8billiards club managers. The research results are as follows：(1) Billiard industry in Urumqi develops comparatively well. The hardware andsoftware facilities of billiard clubs have reached a relatively high level. In these clubs,college students have positive engagement in billiard sports. The current situation ofbilliard sport in Urumqi provides the foundation of cooperative education and sharedfacilities between colleges and clubs.(2) Currently, few colleges have set selective course of billiard for students.However, there is certain potential teaching source in every college. It lays thefaculty groundwork for teaching billiard smoothly in colleges(3) A large amount of college students are intensively interested in billiard, anewly popular sport, and they express great demand of inserting billiard into collegephysical courses in Urumqi colleges.(4) The ground for billiard is relatively rich in Urumqi but the contradictionbetween billiard teaching and other physical courses exist in Urumqi colleges.(5) Each year, the allocate funds for physical approach have reached normalteaching requirement. The strong financial support from authority also ensures thesound progress of college physical teaching in Urumqi.(6) The colleges which have offered billiard course in Urumqi focus on differentparts in physical and technical domains in each term. The purposes for teaching notonly involve the all-sided cultivation of college students but also benefit them to gripover billiard techniques in order to construct solid base for working on all sports inthe future.
