Cooperative learning is an important way of learning which is vigorouslyadvocated in the new biological curriculum reform. It shows to good effect indeveloped areas such as Shandong, Zhe jiang, Shanghai and so on. Its relatedresearches undergo tremendous progress.Considering the researches of cooperativelearning, most of them focus on economically developed regions, but the lessdeveloped western parts of China are rarely covered. Therefore, based on the quostatus and the features of biology teaching, the paper carries out investigations oncooperative learning of biology in junior high school in Gansu, which is economicallyless developed, with the purpose to get a clear understanding of the true situation ofcooperative learning of biology in Gansu and to find the existing problems and comeup with corresponding solutions.Researches on cooperative learning of biology in junior high school are mainlycarried out in the following aspects:In the first place, the author made a study of the literature concerning thecooperative learning and get a basic command of theories supporting this research. Then the investigations are carried out upon the present status of the cooperativelearning of biology in high junior school in Lanzhou, which mainly consists ofquestionnaire survey, individual interview and classroom observation.(1)Questionnaire survey. The questionnaire survey is carried out from boththe aspects of teachers and students. Descriptive analysis and difference analysis areinvolved in the process.(2)Individual interview. The questionnaire survey does not include questionsabout the teacher training, interaction among group members and duration of grouplearning. Classroom observation is conducted from a third-party perspective to get a clear understanding of the status of cooperative learning inLanzhou in order to achieve some objective results. On the basis of the aboveinvestigations, I come to such conclusion: With vigorous promotion of the new curriculum reform, cooperative learning is widely adopted in junior highschools’ biology class, toward which the students hold a relatively positive attitude. Amajority of the teachers come to realize the importance of the cooperative learningand make efforts to involve it into the biology teaching, hoping to improve thestudents’ academic level and cooperation skills. However, problems also exist, such as:(1) Big gap exists between urban andrural areas with regard to cooperative learning of biology in junior high school inLanzhou.(2) Teachers’ skills to guide cooperative learning in biology class is notenough.(3) Students’ cooperative skills and teamwork are both at a low level. In the end,The author has come up with specific solutions to the existingproblems above.
