On The Vocational Education In Church University During The Period Of The Republic Of China(1912-1949)

Christianity and Chinese society has a long history of contact and communication,however, after the modern Christianity entered Chinese mainland once again with the guns ofthe powers,it tried to do missionary work and also held schools of all types and at all levels inthe nature of modern education to facilitate the missions,and had a complex effect on allaspects of Chinese society.Among these schools, the church universities’ influence on thedevelopment of Chinese modern history is likely to be the most profound and long. From thelate Qing dynasty and the early republic of China, the church universities changed from theearly’s neglect of vocational education to the active implementation of vocational education inorder to adapt to the change of Chinese society and improve their living environment to getbetter development,and gradually got themselves into the development of China’s modernvocational education.The vocational education of church universities involved various typesand industries,the vocational education of some church universities was very distinctive andinfluential.Comparatively speaking，agricultural education was one of the most effective typesof the vocational education of church universities,which objectively promoted thedevelopment of agricultural modernization of China. We should correctly view the complexinfluence of the vocational education of church universities on Chinese society in the historyof modern China. We cannot only see the cultural aggression while ignore the objectivefunction of the promotion to China’s modernization process, and we cannot also ignore thedeep contradiction between the western religious nature of church universities and thefundamental purpose of the modernization of Chinese society. As a guide, I take the opinionthat the historical influence of the vocational education of church universities mainly reflectsin three aspects. Firstly,the vocational education of church universities from one side topromote the modernization of Chinese education.Secondly,the vocational education ofchurch universities trained a number of vocational education talents,Thirdly, the vocationaleducation of church universities promoted the modern Chinese woman vocational education. This article mainly uses literature method and case method to make an analysis of thevocational education of church universities from longitudinal and horizontal dimensions.Thearticle is divided into five parts: The first chapter describes the history of the spread ofChristianity in China and the rise and development of the church education.The secondchapter illustrates the reasons of the rise of the vocational education of church universitiesduring the period of the republic of China.The third chapter studies the development of thevocational education of church universities during the middle and late period of the republicof China. The fourth chapter elucidates agricultural education of church universities duringthe period of the republic of China, and does case studies on the agricultural education ofJinling university.The fifth chapter discusses the historical influence of the vocationaleducation of church universities during the period of the republic of China.
