Understanding culture is indispensable to understanding language and vise versa. Whenpeople from different cultural backgrounds communicate, the awareness of cross-culturalcommunication should be taken into consideration. The study on the awareness of cross-culturalcommunication has been gradually strengthened and carried out. from kindergartens to universities.But in vocational schools, the theory and practice about the awareness of cross-culturalcommunication seem not close-related despite the fact that the cultivation of awareness ofcross-cultural communication has been included in English teaching syllabus. It should bediscussed whether the teachers in vocational schools follow the syllabus and make accordingstrategiesto complyto vocationalschool students.From cultural quiz and questionnaire, the awareness of cross-cultural communication ofvocational students has a long way to go for the social requirement of it, with a lot of lack in theirmotivation, practice and initiative. After analysis of the interview of many teachers, of the classobservationandEnglishhomeworkandtests,somekey factorscan beconcluded.Based on the theories of cultivating cross-cultural communication abilities, combined with thefeaturesofvocational schoolstudents,this thesisput forwardthefollowingstrategies:1. Teach differently with different students, to help students realize their needs of theawarenessandexperiencethefunofit;2. Build cultural air, to help students have more chances of being exposed to culture inin-class andafter-classactivities;3. Form teams to help students carry out real practice and accumulate learningresources.What’s more, the teachers in vocational schools should be reminded of paying more attentionto the learning of awareness of cross-cultural communication, and strive for the followinggoals:1. to learn the contents of awareness of cross-cultural communication and make surewhatto teachin English class;2. to study the unique features of vocational students and find appropriate ways ofteachingthem;3. to increase more cultural tests and form good feedback of the results of culturalteachingI English.
