As a closely integrated and fiercely competitive world, the national competition of technology and economic is fundamentally the competition of talents. The direction and the ability of the training of talented personnel are determined by the talents cultivation mode. Mathematics is a science which is a study of the numerical relationship and the space form.It has higher abstractness and logical rigor. With the further advance of the new curriculum ideas, a growing number of mathematics teachers noted that the core of mathematics education is the improvement of mathematical thinking and the development of the mathematical problem solving ability of students. As a teaching method with a long history, mathematical class discussion (MCD) plays a huge role in the process of dissemination of knowledge. The teaching philosophy which is student-centered and teacher-led can be fully reflected in MCD; the collaboration of student-centered, supplemented by teacher-organized will be able to fully mobilize the initiative of students and the interest of mathematical inquiry. During the MCD process, students obtain general knowledge as well as develop the ability of inquiry and problem-solving.This paper is divided into the following six parts.The first part of this paper is an introduction. This part gives an introduction to the origin, the status quo, the purpose, the ideas and the methods of MCD. The analysis on MCD mainly starts from three levels:the trend of the world, the requirements of the new curriculum standards and teaching practice. Upon the review of relevant literature, a summarization of the status quo of the MCD is stated in the paper.The second part of this paper is an overview of the MCD. First comes a definition of the connotation of the MCD; then is a summing up of the five characteristics of MCD like topics, students’subjectivity ect.; next comes the analysis of its theoretical basis; final is the analysis of the three forms of MCD:whole-class discussions, group discussions and random discussions.The third part of this paper is the investigation and analysis of MCD. Through the classroom observation and discussion organization, the seven aspects of the investigation and analysis are mainly from students, teachers, grouping, evaluation and preparation before class. This paper reveals a series of questions that appear in the MCD,The fourth part of this paper is the analysis of the causes of problems of MCD. According to the status quo of MCD, this article analyzes the deep-seated causes behind them and explores respectively from the three aspects analysis as the quality of teachers, students and the quality of external factors.The last part of this paper put forward a four-point strategy for the mathematics teachers carry out MCD from the point of view of the teaching practice:screening carefully to determine the topics discussed in the classroom intervention; enable students to advance understanding of the issues and be prepared; develop a clear discussion of rules; well prepared for the class instruction and the afterschool summary.
