In the middle school sports teaching, gymnastics is an importantpart of physical education material of middle school, and is also an significantevaluation content of “Middle School Students’Sports Standards for Qualifacation”.Gymnastics plays an irreplaceable role in the all-round development of middle schoolstudents and the build of good character. In2003, the Ministry of Educationpromulgated the " Curriculum Standard for High School Sports and Health (for trialimplementation)", which regulates that gymnastics is one of options that a senior highschool student of compulsory and elective study can choose. It also rules that highschool students can choose an item from the gymnastics according to their ownconditions and hobbies to meet the needs of personalized learning and development. InSeptember2006, Gymnastics Sports Management Center of the State GeneralAdministration of Sports issued new regulations for gymnastics levels, after theirresearching and test according to the Chinese youth sports level, schools’ facilities andother conditions. Compared with the old ones, the difficulty of new level actions isreduced, which tends to be more popular, more suitable for most of the gymnasticsamateur, and is helpful to promote the popularization and development of gymnastics.This paper uses the methods of literature, questionnaire, interview and mathematicalstatistics to investigate and analyse the of facilities, gymnastics project settings ofMianyang high schools. A set of gymnastics action is also set on this basis to verifywhether sports and health curriculum in Mianyang’s high school can offer the content ofgymnastics teaching.This study aims to research the feasibility of gymnastics teaching content inMianyang high schools on the basis of the above questions, and raise some suggestionsand measures to provide some useful suggestions for the setting of gymnastics teachingcontent there.Studies have found that the gymnastics teaching content of Mianyang high schools’sports and health courses does not reach the designated position. There are the followingproblems:1. Under the new curriculum standard, each school’s gymnastics teaching is notenough, and gymnastics teaching does not complete tasks set in the Aports TeachingOutline.2. PE teachers’ age structure there is reasonable, their education level is relativelyhigh, and they have positive attitude to the implement of gymnastics items, but the PEteachers’ are more majoring in ball games. As a result, professional gymnastics teachersis in shortage, which is unfavorable to gymnastics. 3. Schools are seriously short of facilities, teachers’ utilization of gymnastics venue,equipment is insufficient, which limits the carrying out of gymnastics teaching content.4. School leaders and teachers are afraid to take students’injury responsibility ingymnastics class, so they restrict or prohibit gymnastics class. Gymnastics teaching ishard to organize, and some teachers’ enthusiasm is not high.5, PE teachers’ teaching method and mode still stay in the traditional level. Thereare few teachers who can apply information technology to gymnastics teaching.On the basis of above analysis, this paper’s suggestions are as follows:1. It suggests that schools should consider professional gymnastics teachersconfiguration when introducing new teachers.2. Middle schools in Mianyang has limited facilities, which to a large extentlimited the gymnastics development. So, countries and schools should increase thefunding for gymnastics venue, and equipment investment.3. Teachers should adopt effective means and methods to strengthen students’quality training, protect and help and should be fully prepared for activities in order toavoid unnecessary accidents.4. Various forms of gymnastics competition activities should be conduct.
