In the period of the "Education National Salvation" Chen Wangdao returned from Japan as a returned student and engaged in the modern building of language actively. He was deeply aware that language is the most basic problem in our daily life. To use language correctly is extremely important for the enlightenment and the emancipation of the mind. He started from the innovation of school language teaching and open up the<New Youth><Nation Daily Supplement><Bai> magazine. He opposed to the ancient ways of literary style restoring and advocated vernacular and philology. In order to make the vernacular, he study the grammar, rhetoric and writing carefully He strive to summed the rules and regulation of the language and to establish a scientific language knowledge system.Chen Wangdao devoted his life to study and practice the language teaching and made immemorial contributions to scientific and modern language teaching. The articles try to set Chen’s Chinese teaching thoughts in an entire background and Chen’s original language view. And unified his fragmented language teaching thoughts on his pursuits of scientific building of Chinese subject, explore the contribution he made in this area, focus on the efforts and achievements he made on the explicit, systematic, scientific language knowledge. The introduction part introduces Chen’life and the evolution of modern and scientific language. The first part explains Chen’ established Marxist ideological stance in the line of the "vernacular contention" and "the public language movement"; the second part discusses Chen’s linguistics research, grasps his inherited and development of Saussure’s linguist, refining his language tool theory and functional theory; the third part develop on the previous book, On the base of consulting achievements in the fielded rhetorical research by predecessors, the author discussed its everlasting merits in the history of contemporary rhetoric and pointed out its weak points, in order to carry forward the good tradition of seniors, and profoundly understand this rhetorical work; the fourth part based on the Composition Method handouts, focusing on the significance of its stylistic division; the last part summarizes his contribution on the Chinese knowledge state changing from hidden to dominant.
