A Study On Chen WangDa’s View Of Women Life

Chen Wangdao is a pioneer of women’s liberation movement in modern times.Around the New Culture Movement which was around the time of the May4thMovement in1919, he devoted himself to the theoretical study of women’s life andput forward a large number of effective solutions to the problems in women’s life.These theories and solutions played an important role in guiding women to pursue afree life.In terms of women’s attitudes towards love, Chen Wangdao maintains that only afree love on the basis of sincerity is meaningful for the society and oneself. Aboutwomen’s views of marriage, Chen Wangdao thinks that women have to removebarriers from laws, ideas and society to get the freedom of marriage. And economicindependence is crucial for their freedom in marriage. As far as the fertility isconcerned, Chen Wangdao claims that women have the rights to decide the quantityand time of bearing. In Chen Wangdao’s opinion, women’s social activities are thepremise of women’s life as an independent creature. Participating in social activitieswill enhance women’s intelligence and knowledge, contribute to gender equality andchange the status quo of women’s humble social status.From Chen Wangdao’s view of women life, we can conclude that he advocateswomen’s pursuit of an independent and free life. The humanism of Cheng Wangdao’sview of women life lies in his proposal that women should have a life as persons；hiswomen-basis is reflected from his opinion that women are different from men andshould be independent of men; the modern pursuit is embodied in his claim thatwomen are supposed to pursue modern life and his opposition to the discriminationand constraint for women.
