In current secondary vocational English teaching, teachers often pay more attention to the design of teaching than that of homework. Homework is the basic link of teaching procedure. It provides opportunities for students to supple and extend what they have learned in class. Also it is a good way for students to gain knowledge, develop abilities, cultivate their attitudes and cultural awareness. However, at present, the mode of English homework in secondary vocational school is worrying. Therefore, I think it is of great necessity to make a reform on it. Based on the theories and specific cases analysis, the paper aims at exploring standards, principles and methods of designing English homework in secondary vocational school, proposing its effectiveness, making it play a linking role between teaching and learning.The paper begins at the background of researching, significance and method, consulting a variety of studies on English homework at home and abroad. In chapter one, the author elaborates the concepts on English homework, homework designing and homework assessment. Meanwhile,the author brings forward the standards and significances of optimizing. In chapter two, a survey on current situation of English homework in secondary vocational school is carried out by means of questionnaires and interviews, revealing several major problems:the types of English homework are single, lacking interest and creation; Besides, teachers seldom choose and design English homework carefully, usually leaving students the same homework; In addition, the means that teachers assess homework is boring lacking diversity. In chapter three, the author introduces Constructivism, Multiple Intelligence, and zone of proximal development, probing into the ideas on design and evaluation of English homework in secondary vocational school. In chapter four, the author comes up with three standards and four principles on optimizing the design of English homework. Combining some cases of English homework, the author also puts up some useful strategies on the design of it and presents concrete proposals for improving on its judgment. Chapter five is the conclusion. In this part, research production is summarized. Also, the author puts up some extra useful advice for homework designing. Besides, the author reflects the shortcomings in this research as well.In brief, the author expects this research is able to provide a feasible reference program for the design and evaluation of English homework in secondary vocational school. Sincerely hope the English homework that teachers carefully think about and design can bring students very different feelings, really motivate students and promote their general abilities.
