Hope Of College Students And Its Influencing Factors

The Ministry of Education issued a series of outline and opinions on strengthening the mental health education of college students year by year, which clearly pointed out the necessity of further strengthening and improving the mental health education of college students. Hope is one topic in which positive psychology research. With the development of positive psychology, foreign countries have studied hope theory in depth and it has been widely used, but the domestic scholars have just started the research. Based on its unique meaning and connotation, the research on hope has become an important subject of psychology research. This study used quantitative research and qualitative research altogether to explore the college students’hope level and its influencing factors. An interview was conducted to18college students, which further explored the college students’hope level and its influencing factors.The study adopted Adult Dispositional Hope Scale, the General Self-efficacy Scale, Life Satisfaction Index A, and Social Support Rating Scale as research tools, selected three grade college students, from freshmen to junior, in eight different levels of colleges in Hunan province, used the literature, questionnaire survey, interviews and other research methods and analyzed the data by Software SPSS15.0and AMOS7.0to investigate the present hope level of college students and the impact of general demographic variables, general self-efficacy, life satisfaction and social support on hope. Study drew the following conclusions:First, college students have high level of hope, but the individual difference is obvious;Second, the study found demographic data, academic achievement, career intentions and interpersonal had significant impact on hope of college students; while gender, major, grade, celibacy and family economic situation didn’t have significant impact on college students’hope;Third, correlation analysis found that college students’hope level were significantly positively correlated with general self-efficacy, life satisfaction and social support, and the correlation coefficient was0.28-0.63;Fourth, linear regression analysis indicted that self-efficacy, life satisfaction and social support can obviously predict hope level of college students;Fifth, path analysis found that self-efficacy was a mediating variable of life satisfaction and hope, meanwhile, self-efficacy was a mediating variable of social support and hope;Sixth, the realization of capability, life satisfaction, high level social support and harmonious relationship were the main influencing factors of college students’ hope level;Seventh, the employment pressure, the lack of social support, low life satisfaction, school mismanagement and dissatisfied major were the main reasons for low hope level of college students.In accordance with the conclusions of the quantitative research and qualitative research, paper puts forward four suggestions on how to improve the hope level of college students:Firstly, college students should set goals and refine goals effectively;Secondly, college students should constantly improve themselves;Thirdly, college students should construct a good social support network;Fourthly, college school should be oriented to college students’employment, improve management system and strengthen mental health education of college students.
