Physics is closely related to mathematics,which helps to solve problems,formulations,concepts and laws of physics.Mathematics,the tool of studying physics,has an importantinfluence on physics.With the help of mathematics,physics was born and developed.Withoutthe support of physics,physics will not be able to be applied and developed.According to one of the three goals process and method,The Ordinary High SchoolPhysics Curriculum Standards clearly put forw ard the requirement on the ability of themathematical application.And physics syllabus of college entrance examination also raisesdemand that students should deal with physics problems using the tool of appliedmathematics.So we should give priority to train the students’ abilities of applyingmathematics.This paper describes the roles that mathematics plays in the teaching of physics at seniorhigh school and the process of student’s study from the following fouraspects.Firstly,mathematical language,including symbols,formulas,image and so on,is animportant tool of studying and describing natural science,and also provides brief and accuratelanguage and expression to the physics concepts and rules.Secondly,mathematics provides animportant method of quantitative research and theoretical analysis to the physics,makingphysics more accurately reflecting objective things and realistic problems,which can help toprompt the essence and the universal law of things.What’s more, the introduction of physicsconcept and the establishment of physical model both need scientific abstraction,and theapplication of physics also needs logical reasoning.And mathematics is an important tool forphysics to connect scientific abstraction and logical reason.Finally,it is mathematics that helpsthe widely applied of scientific theory,rapid development after breaking through the limitationof their own and the development of science and technology and social progress that physics promotes.Research and application of physics theory need mathematics methods,and the learningof physics and the solution of problems at high school also need a lot of mathematicalmethods,such as the ratio method,image method,function equation method,geometrymethod,vector method,differential method,the combination method.The paper discusses theapplication of some typical mathematical methods in physics at senior high school.In order to understand current situation of mathematics application in physics teaching athigh school,the author analyses and investigates many problems using many forms includingquestionnaires,interviews with teachers,the diagnosis of various forms of testing and teachingcase analysis.Based on that,author makes suggestions and strategies of cultivating thestudents’ ability to apply mathematics.In the process of concrete teaching practice,we should not only do a good job of mutualpenetration connecting thought and method of the mathematics and physics knowledge,butalso focus on the teaching of physics and mathematics for a long time.Combined with theconcrete cases,this paper explains that we should emphasize mutual penetration betweenteaching thought and methods from the following aspects:mutual penetration of theoryteaching,consolidation of exercises,and the migration of experimental course.To cultivate students’ abilities to apply mathematics is not only the need for physicslearning at senior high school,but also requirements that college entrance examination hasproposed.In the process of teaching,the author has instilled various teaching methods intostudents using a lot of methods.He also put students’ abilities to develop their appliedmathematics,and students have made great progress from the following aspects.Firstly,hemade full use of the implicit methods in the mathematics textbooks,which should combineknowledge and method. Secondly,he not only penetrates mathematical methods but also takesphysical qualities into account.Thirdly,he used mathematical method flexibly in the process ofphysical exercises,not making physics problems complete mathematics.What’s more,heshould be good at converting physical problems to mathematical problems.Finally,he shouldpay attention to combine physical teaching and mathematics teaching in order to improvestudents’ abilities of combination mathematics and physics.This research on this topic will help physics teacher to develop creative talents who should be flexible and solid to solve practical problems at high school according to therequirements of quality education.Moreover,it plays a significant part in improving thestudents’ innovation ability and cultivating students’ scientific literacy.
