The reform of old-style private schools(shorthand for ROOPS) is a hotspot in educational history research in recent years;And theses show a fast-growing trend on this.These research results are brilliant.But they only provide an overview;and they are lack of systematic and comprehensive study.Meanwhile,most of them focus on coastal and developed areas, such as Zhejiang Province and Zhili Province.As to central region, specific to Henan province, ROOPS is only referred in the history of education in Henan province and modern history briefly;and they are lack of systematic collation and studies.This article takes Henan as a research object to explore the official measures and effectiveness of ROOPS in the late Qing dynasty and the Republic of China;And it aslo Involves in the attitudes of parties on the reform.All these are to render a clear context of the improvement of ROOPS in Henan.Firstly,this article combs traditional private schools’ situation in Henan province, aiming to create an reference for later ROOPS in Henan. Secondly,the article has two stages to visit the measures and effectiveness of the reform in Henan including the late Qing dynasty and the Republic of China;In early days of the Republic of China,due to political unrest,frequent wars and faminej,the education has stagnated even stagnated,so there is no education reform in Henan.Outlined as follows:Chapter one:firstly,base on the front of the school’s definition,the article combs features about Several main private schools forms.Secondly,the paper discusses the modes of instruction and curriculum arrangement of old-style private schools.Part III of this chapter deals with the old-style private schools’ teaching content and management, especially discusses the later.Chapter two:In late Qing dynasty, the government enacted a new education system to built new primary schools.But with the new education was founded, obstacles such as financial resources, teachers begins highlighting.Because of the reality,Henan had set Educational Affair Bureau in education department; And Educational Affair Bureau was also established in administrative division and county,as educational administrative body.Henan promulgate the Statute of ROOPS,which has detailed provisions on the responsibilities, procedures and measures on the reform.The ROOPS had constructed a number of elementary schools,so it has the positive.But the quality and impact are disappointed.The third chapter discusses the process of Henan private school improvement in the Republic of China.The period is divided into two stages,one part is the period of the northern warlords, the other part is the KMT rule.In the former period, Henan improvement suffered setbacks by natural and man-made influence.Many areas affected by this, the number of traditional private schools had reduced.Under the circumstances,It is not realistic to found new schools and improve schools.In the period of the Kuomintang, the social environment becomes a little better, because of the new culture movement, the thought of Education.So the government of Henan attached great importance to education.TROOPS had many difficulties, with little success.In order to explore the cause,the paper investigates the attitude of private schools teachers,the father of student, local squires.On the basis of the above study,the end of the paper analyzes the background characteristics and historical position of Henan private school improvement.
